A video shared on social media has sparked outrage after a mother was recorded brutally hitting her daughter in broad daylight somewhere in Kawit, Cavite.
The child cowered in fear as her mother violently kicked her at least five times.
A concerned citizen took a video of the incident and eventually decided to intervene. The disturbing post has gone viral with more than four million views on Facebook since it was uploaded last Thursday.
According to an update by ABS-CBN News, the officials of the Balsahan-Bisita District of Kawit, Cavite, searched for the mother of the video to investigate the alleged abuse.
It was later discovered that the girl in the video was only 12-years-old, and is the youngest of four siblings. The unnamed mother explained she got angry because her daughter didn’t want to sell flowers with her.
Upon questioning, municipal social welfare worker Yolanda Labo said she was told it was the first time a violent incident like this occurred between the mother-daughter pair.
Labo reminded the mother to “use diplomacy” instead of physical punishment.
The local government will continue to monitor the mother and intervene if necessary. Officials also said they will help send the young girl back to school.
