Village councilor in Manila shot dead in capital’s Tondo district

A village councilor was shot dead early this morning in an apparent ambush in the Tondo district of Manila.

The victim was identified as Ernesto Sibug, 63, a village councilor and a resident of Barangay (Village) 131, Zone 1 in Balut, Tondo, Remate reported. The shooting incident happened at 6am today.

Police say the victim was about to get in his Mitsubishi Adventure on Beltran Street, at the corner of Pinoy Street, when an unidentified assailant aboard a black Toyota Fortuner drove near him and shot him repeatedlyThe Philippine Daily Inquirer reported. The suspect fled the crime scene after committing the crime.

Sibug was rushed to Tondo General Medical Center but was declared dead on arrivalRadyo Inquirer reported.

Authorities say that the plate number on the assailant’s vehicle couldn’t be read from the CCTV footage that captured the shooting. Police have yet to identify the gun used to kill Sibug.

Police are still investigating the possible motives behind Sibug’s killing.
