Actor and Cavite Vice Governor Jolo Revilla yesterday apologized for a statement that appeared on his social media channel where he said that explorer Ferdinand Magellan is a Filipino hero.
In addition, Revilla said that it wasn’t him who posted the statement, but his intern.

“I apologize for the earlier confusing post on our celebration of Lapu-lapu’s victory in Mactan 500 years ago,” Revilla said. “An intern in our social media team posted the caption to our meme without first clearing it. Again, my sincerest apologies to our Cebuano countrymen and to all Filipinos.”
The Portuguese circumnavigator arrived in Cebu in 1521 but was killed in Mactan by local chieftain Lapu-lapu and his men. However, Revilla called Magellan a hero instead of Lapu-lapu.
“A salute to the bravery of one of our first heroes Ferdinand Magellan who sacrificed his life for freedom 500 years ago,” Revilla wrote in his erroneous post, which was edited, and then erased, shortly after it appeared.
