An unidentified man gave away PHP 100 (US$2) bills to the people queuing at a Makati community pantry today.

Former congressman Teodoro Casiño, one of the organizers of the pantry, said in a tweet, “Holy smokes! A man arrived at our #CommunityPantry in Makati and gave away P100 to everyone in the line. He didn’t introduce himself. Thank you, whoever you are!”

Accompanying the tweet is a video of the man, who was wearing a face mask and face shield, as he hands out the bills.

The community pantry is located at Vito Cruz Extension corner South Avenue and serves the surrounding villages in the area.

A Filipina named Ana Patricia Non came up with the first pantry in her Quezon City village last week. The idea is similar to food banks in Australia and the United States, to help Filipinos who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. People are free to take food and other items from the pantry, but they are also encouraged to give what they can. Within days the idea was replicated in several towns all over the Philippines.
