The Department of Transportation (DOTr) threatened to terminate the contract Metro Rail Transit Line 3’s (MRT-3) maintenance provider after the glitches that occurred on its trains earlier this week.

In a letter dated April 19, 2017, DOTr Undersecretary for Railways Cesar Chavez asked Busan Universal Rails Inc. to explain the glitches despite maintenance work on the trains done during the Holy Week break.

“You are hereby directed to explain within 7 days from receipt hereof why the contract should not be terminated in accordance with the provisions of law and contract,” the letter said.

A series of glitches occurred on MRT trains after a four-day maintenance check its railway which left questions about their safety.

MRT-3’s maintenance provider earlier said the grease used on the railways were not fit for the summer heat in the country.
