We’re all getting a day off on Monday to celebrate Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), but the MRT has other plans to honor Filipino veterans.
In a tweet yesterday, the Department of Transportation announced that all Filipino veterans and one companion will get free MRT-3 rides from April 5 — 11 (Thursday — Wednesday). The treat is also in observance of Philippine Veterans week happening on those days.
GOOD NEWS: In observance of the 2018 Araw ng Kagitingan and Philippine Veterans Week, MRT-3 offers FREE RIDES to all Filipino veterans (with one free companion) from April 5 – 11, 2018 at 5:30 AM to 10:30 PM. #DOTrPH #ArawNgKagitingan2018 🇵🇭️ pic.twitter.com/xyreuZScwp

Veterans will need to present their Philippine Veterans Affairs Office ID card in order to get a single-journey ticket for the train.
Manila’s train system is often problematic. In February, as little as eight MRT-3 trains were operational. Trains also often break down or are late, causing long queues daily.
But on Monday, it started operating 15 trains again for the first time since January after undergoing repairs during last week’s Holy Week break.
