Brr, it’s cold in here.

The temperature in most parts of the Philippines is actually recorded at 28°C today but you’d think the tropical country was in the thick of winter based on how Filipinos are reacting to January’s temperature drop.

Many can’t get over how cool it’s been, welcoming the rare sweater weather with excited posts online.

This morning, the search term “Baguio” was trending on local Twitter because loads of netizens were saying that they felt like they were in the Philippine highland city of Baguio, one of the few places in the Philippines that has cool weather all-year-round.

Right now, for instance, Baguio’s temperature is at 17°C and will drop to 11°C tonight. Yesterday, it reached as low as 9.8°C, the lowest recorded temperature since October, GMA News reported.

@RuizMiggylito noted how it was cold even at noon.

“That moment you feel Baguio’s coolness at noon,” he said in Filipino.

@hernandahorse wrote: “It’s so cold, is this how UP (University of the Philippines) Baguio feels like? Half joking, I really don’t know.”

Another netizen said people should just take advantage of the cool weather.

“It’s not often that Bulacan turns into Baguio, so make the most out of it,” @tumn018 wrote.

Others simply shared how cold they were feeling.

“I thought I will not experience a winter but Philippines seems experiencing (sic) winter solstice now. Very cold weather. I hope that this summer would not be extreme as well,” @yohanayohanIV wrote.

@ChrisAguinald0 said he can get used to this weather.

“Yow Philippines. Hope your weather can stay like this forever. Cool but no rain. Huhu.”

@heyshairaly said her parents were even discussing the possibility of snow in the Philippines.

It doesn’t snow in the Philippines but there have been hail storms in Benguet, the province where Baguio is located.

The Philippines only experiences two seasons — wet and dry —  but it’s typically cooler from November to February.

The Northeast Monsoon will affect the entire country today, according to the latest forecast by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. Some provinces in Northern Luzon will experience cloudy skies and isolated light rains but it will leave no significant impact.

Enjoy the sweater weather while it lasts!
