The polluted Pasig River is not a body of water many want to swim in but this woman had no choice. She was brought to the hospital after the SUV she was riding fell into the river in Makati City last night.

Senior Supt. Rogelio Simon, chief of the Makati City Police, said that the Toyota Fortuner was parked at a part of Guadalupe northbound when the driver, Luis Ponciano, got out of the car to buy something, ABS-CBN News reported.

Ponciano said that he raised the handbrake before getting out of the vehicle, Bombo Radyo stated.

The car’s engine was left running and a female passenger identified as Erlinda Francisco, the Vice President for operations of PAG-IBIG NCR (National Capital Region), was inside the vehicle when it suddenly started to reverse and fall into the river.

ABS-CBN News stated that another passenger, identified as Bhecky Pangan, got out of the car before the incident to buy medicine from a drugstore.

Police saw that Ponciano’s story checked out as the company-issued vehicle’s handbrake was in fact raised when the car was retrieved and lifted out of the river by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the report added.

Francisco was brought to the hospital for treatment but did not have any major injuries.

Someone up above is looking out for this woman.

Meanwhile, traffic investigator SPO2 Wilson Nacino told ABS-CBN News that authorities are looking into the possibility of mechanical failure.
