This is by far one of the most random things that has happened to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte — and that’s saying a lot given the misadventures he gets himself into.

Yesterday, Duterte met with actor Stephen Baldwin in a courtesy call at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Manila in Bonifacio Global City. One of the things they discussed? The engagement of Stephen’s daughter Hailey to Justin Bieber.

“During the start of the meeting, Mr. Baldwin asked the President’s opinion on his daughter’s engagement to actor, singer, and songwriter Mr. Justin Bieber,” Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Bong Go said in a statement today.

Hailey, a model, recently got engaged to the Biebs during a vacation in the Bahamas last month.

Bieber confirmed it with a post on Instagram:

“The President responded that as long as Mr. Bieber truly believes in the sanctity of marriage, Mr. Baldwin has nothing to worry about,” Go added.

Yes, this is the conversation the president was having.

The statement is also very off-brand for Duterte who has openly spoken about having two wives and two girlfriends. In June, he also infamously kissed a married OFW on stage as “payment” for a book he was giving away.

Stephen is in town because he is the lead actor in the upcoming film Kaibigan directed by Filipino actor Cesar Montano, a Duterte supporter. The film, unsurprisingly, is about the negative effects of drugs.

Also in the film is blogger, Duterte supporter, and Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson who will play something she is known to be a staunch critic of — a reporter.

Reports say that Go, Duterte’s special assistant, will also have a cameo in the movie.
