A couple was arrested on Saturday night after they were caught having sex in public at the Iloilo Esplanade, a popular park in the city.
The 29-year-old pedicab driver and 19-year-old prostitute were seen buck naked in a dimly-lit area by a jogger, who then promptly reported the “lovers” to a roving cop, reported the regional TV news show One Western Visayas.
The cop arrested the couple at about 8:30pm, but not before telling them to put some clothes on, reported Panay News.
Police Major Marlon Valencia, the police chief, was understandably miffed at the couple. “The Esplanade is not a motel,” Valencia said, adding that Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is planning to have more lampposts installed in the park to avoid such scandalous activities from reoccurring.
The man involved did not deny that he and the woman were having sex. He told ABS-CBN News that the woman agreed to have sex with him after he paid her PHP200 (US$3.84). He and the woman have both been charged with “grave scandal,” an actual charge that really feels like it should involve sex in a cemetery. Bail was set at PHP3,000 (US$57.67).
