Thousands of uniformed personnel from different regions will be deployed in Metro Manila to secure the 30th ASEAN Summit next week, Wednesday to Saturday at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
About 41,000 policemen, soldiers, firemen, traffic enforcers and personnel from other security agencies are scheduled to be officially deployed tomorrow.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief, Director Oscar Albayalde said security and emergency response forces from regions 1, 2, 3, 4-A, 5 and Cebu will beef up police, military and other security personnel in Metro Manila.
Albayalde said authorities have not monitored any threats so far,
but they will be on the lookout for possible “threat groups” in Metro Manila and several areas in Mindanao.
The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), meanwhile, said there will be a lockdown along Diokno Avenue in Pasay City from Friday to Sunday.
MMDA assigned the following as “ASEAN lanes”: Diokno Avenue, Jalandoni, V. Sotto, A. Dela Rama and Bukaneg streets in Pasay City; as well as Arnaiz, Makati Avenue and Park Drive in Makati City.
There will also be a “stop and go” rule in Makati City, where roads will be closed whenever delegates pass by.
