San Juan City Hall today reopened Agora Market to its vendors and shoppers, after being shut for 15 days for disinfection when one of its vendor tested positive for the coronavirus.
“With the reopening of Agora Market today, only vendors, staff, and employees with a health clearance are allowed to sell and work,” Mayor Francis Zamora said in a statement that appeared online.
The city’s public advisory also said that only vendors and workers who have tested negative of the coronavirus and who have “obtained a health clearance or blue ID from the City Health Office” will be allowed to resume work.
The mayor urged vendors and shoppers to wear a mask and follow social distancing when inside the market.
“Those who do not follow these protocols will be referred to the San Juan Police and [the city’s] Task Force Discipline. This is to ensure the safety of everyone,” said Zamora.

The public market was shut down on July 3 after a lone vendor was found infected with the coronavirus. A few days following the shutdown, at least 23 more market vendors and workers tested positive.
While San Juan had the first few reported cases of COVID-19 in Metro Manila, the city has logged fewer patients compared to other areas in the National Capital Region.
As of yesterday, San Juan City has a total of 440 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 45 deaths, and 276 recoveries.
