Rumors aren’t worth listening to, but in this case, perhaps it’s worth taking seriously.

The Quezon City Hall of Justice was shut down starting today over unconfirmed reports that a suspected COVID-19 patient who used to work in the building has passed away.

“[U]pon the authority given by the Hon. Jose Midas P. Marquez, Court Administrator, the Hall of Justice (Main and Annex), Quezon City will be on LOCKDOWN beginning May 18, 2020 until further notice,” Executive Judge Cecilyn Burgos-Villavert said in her statement dated yesterday but released to the media today.

The judge added that contact tracing and disinfection would be done while the Hall is closed. Anyone who wishes to make pleadings for criminal and civil cases, such as applications for bail, can file them electronically.

“Accordingly, [the] entrance of any person at the Hall of Justice, Quezon City shall be disallowed during the said period,” she added.

The shutdown was done following the unconfirmed news that an employee of another government office located in the same building had visited the Hall then passed away from severe pneumonia and COVID-19 shortly after.

Quezon City has 1,807 COVID-19 cases as of yesterday. It is still under the modified enhanced community quarantine, along with the rest of Metro Manila, Laguna, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Zambales, and Angeles City. Cebu City and Mandaue City, meanwhile, are still under the enhanced community quarantine.
