Purrfect employee: Cat ‘works’ as security guard at Cebu City Hall

This has got to be the coolest cat in town.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Cebu resident Don Marc Dondon shared photos of Mengkay, a cat who “works” at the Cebu City Hall as a security guard — or so it says on the ID attached to her leash.

“I kennat (cannot)! Mengkay is an official city worker,” Dondon wrote in his caption. “See her identification card. So cute!”

According to the ID, Mengkay was given the last name “Bantay,” a Filipino word which means “guard.” Her employee number? 9999999, of course.

She works as a security guard for the Cebu City Treasurer’s Office but it looks like she’s not doing a very good job — just look at her sleeping.

But we know how tough life can be protecting hoomans, so we’ll let this one slide.

And netizens couldn’t get enough of Mengkay.

Kaye Borbon said in Visayan: “[Mengkay is] sleeping on the job! Hahahahaha so cute!”

Archie Grapa couldn’t help but wonder how much Mengkay earns. “I bet she’s paid below minimum [wage],” he wrote.

Dianne Tabanao said Mengkay looked kind of familiar: “Omg my cat looks like her,” she said.

All in all, most thought Mengkay was adorable. Faye Pasaol said with delight: “So cuuuuuttteeee!!!”

Coconuts Manila reached out to Cebu City Hall and to Dondon for further comment but they have yet to respond.
