The authorities have launched a manhunt after five inmates escaped from Calabayog City Jail in Samar yesterday afternoon.
Prisoners who have escaped have been identified as Milo Ligason, Eron Tomboc, Edgar Elbano, Eden Albano, and Raul Dorojo. One of their fellow inmates who tried to bolt from jail, Edwin Abria, was shot to death by guards. Another one, named Edar Balantino, was captured by the authorities.
According to a police report, the inmates attacked two prison guards just as they were connecting a hose from the city’s water district to the jail’s tank. After assaulting the guards, the inmates forcibly opened the jail gates and then fled to a mountainous area in the village of Gadgaran on foot.
