This is probably the only good reason to catfish someone.

On Sunday, police arrested a man suspected of murder after an officer pretended to be a woman on Facebook and invited him to meet up in person.

Adrian Arellano was the fourth most wanted person by the Marikina Police for allegedly killing a man named Jerome Licuanan last January for owing him PHP3,000 (US$58.75). Both men are part of the police’s list of suspected drug pushers and according to The Philippine Daily Inquirer, Arellano probably stabbed Licuanan for a botched drug deal.

Police initially couldn’t arrest Arellano because he had been hiding in the Bicol region, where he is from. He returned to Marikina in October.

To find him, Marikina Police Chief Roger Quesada said an undercover officer pretended to be a woman on Facebook and befriended Arellano.

“Through social media, we were able to contact [the suspect]. We had a woman officer act as the bait and he took it,” Quesada said in Filipino.

Using Facebook, the police were able to communicate with Arellano and monitor his activities.

After establishing a relationship and saying that the woman had “a huge crush on him,” police invited Arellano to meet up along Quezon City’s Mindanao Ave., the Inquirer reported. A woman police officer met up with him on Sunday morning and arrested him then and there.

Talk about a bad first date.
