A high-ranking officer of the Philippine National Police (PNP) was shot dead late yesterday afternoon in his office in Taguig by one of his own men.

Police Maj. Emerson Palomares, a commanding officer of the PNP’s Special Action Force (SAF) at Camp Bagong Diwa, was allegedly shot dead by Police Master Sergeant Sanwright Lobhoy, reported CNN Philippines. Palomares had reportedly scolded Lobhoy over an issue.

Palomares was rushed to the Dr. Sabili General Hospital in Taguig, then later transferred to the Parañaque Doctors Hospital for treatment, but was declared dead at about 5:23am.

Lobhoy was immediately arrested after the incident and is now in the custody of the SAF, reported ABS-CBN News.

Authorities are still investigating what exactly the two men fought over and whose firearm the suspect allegedly used in the shooting, according to Bombo Radyo.
