The police confiscated PHP1.38 million (more than US$52,500) worth of suspected shabu (methamphetamine) when it arrested an alleged drug lord in Tagbilaran City, Bohol last night.
The Philippine Daily Inquirer identified the suspect as 33-year-old Geoffrey Buaya Silao, a resident of Talisay City, Cebu.
A total of 117 grams of suspected shabu was confiscated from Silao, who was caught at a relative’s house in Barangay (village) Cogon in Tagbilaran, according to Cebu Daily News.
The police also seized cash and cellphones from the suspect, according to RMN.
Silao said he was just keeping the drugs for a friend. The police believe that the shabu was transported by boat from Cebu City.
Silao will be charged with violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, reported SunStar. If proven guilty, he could face life imprisonment and a fine ranging from PHP500,000 (US$9,242) to PHP10 million (US$184,838).
