Filipino-Chinese businessman Lucio Tan has been hospitalized for COVID-19, his daughter Vivienne Tan announced in a social media post yesterday.
“My dad was admitted to the hospital after he tested positive for Covid-19. He is in stable condition, responding well, and recovering,” Vivienne said of her 86-year-old father, one of the richest men in the Philippines.

“We would like to request some privacy at this time. Please continue to pray for his speedy recovery. Thank you,” she added.
Lucio has several companies to his name, such as Philippine Airlines (PAL), Fortune Tobacco, Eton Properties, Philippine National Bank, and the University of the East. PAL, the country’s flag carrier, released a statement to say that its employees are sending their “well wishes for the speedy recovery of Dr. Tan.”
PAL retrenched thousands of its workers last month as a consequence of the travel restrictions imposed by various governments to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
A native of Fujian, China, Lucio is the third richest Filipino with a net worth of US$3.3 billion, according to Forbes.
The Philippines has 141,089 active cases of COVID with 15,960 deaths. Overall, the country has logged a total of 936,133 cases since the pandemic started in 2020.
