Parent threatens teacher with gun over kid’s bad grade

Some parents can go overboard when it comes to being involved in their kids’ school activities, but one parent took it way too far when he allegedly brought a gun to his kid’s school, Ateneo de Davao University (AdDu), in Davao City yesterday and threatened a teacher over his child’s bad grades.

The incident was confirmed to local news website Rappler  by Judith Dalagan, Addu Faculty Union president and OIC director of the AdDU Language Center.

The gun was thankfully not fired, nor was anyone hurt, and the union is still deciding what action to take on the incident, per Dalagan.

Teacher John Harvey Gamas, who is a teacher at the same school, posted on Facebook about how parents should not threaten teachers with guns, without going into detail about the incident. John Harvey, your words are wise.

School officials have yet to release a statement or the names of the teacher or suspects involved in the incident.

Coconuts Manila reached out to school administration for a statement on the incident but has not received a response as of posting time.

Davao City is the hometown of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who was once expelled from this same high school.

While guns on school campuses are a persistent problem in American schools, in the Philippines, there has only been one notable incident of a school shooting in the past five years, when a police officer shot and killed four teachers in Pangasinan in 2014, allegedly over uncollected debts.
