Cops should be the first people to know about the dangers of illegal drugs, but obviously that’s not always the case. The Philippine National Police said today that two of their men and one employee tested positive in a random drug test conducted last week.
The cops have been identified as Patrolmen Robert Buenavente and Guillermo Laggui, both of whom work at the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Regional Headquarters Support Unit. The contractual worker who tested positive worked in the same unit, but the person’s name was withheld.

According to NCRPO chief Debold Sinas, all three were discovered to have been using methamphetamine or shabu. He has already ordered the relief of the policemen and the termination of the employee.
The three were just among the 260 people who were subjected to a random drug test after an Aug. 30 seminar discussing the police force’s COVID-19 response in Metro Manila. The three’s urine samples underwent a second confirmatory test which showed positive results.
Sinas, who became controversial for hosting a birthday bash while Metro Manila was under a stricter quarantine, said that the incident is just part of the NCRPO’s “cleansing measures.”
“We have successfully separated our colleagues who use illegal drugs from those who are dedicatedly performing their tasks. Rest assured that we will not stop in this quest,” he said.
