It would have made for a hilarious Freudian slip but that viral “feces” in the Senate headline going around is nothing but a cleverly executed meme.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer said yesterday that they never actually published the headline “Same feces, names dominate Senate race,” which has been attributed to them thanks to a viral photo.

In an article published last night, the national newspaper said that the screenshot of the story being shared online is fake.

They even got their IT team to investigate on it and they allegedly found that the photo had been photoshopped.

“INQUIRER.net’s homepage gallery has been copied through screenshot and altered the headline ‘Same faces, names dominate Senate race’ to make it read ‘Same feces, names dominate Senate race’ by using a photo digital editing program.

“The perpetrator/s used the cut-and-paste method, copying one of the ‘e’ letters of the headline and pasted it on the ‘faces’ word,” it added.

Facebook user Normal Wilwayco’s posted the now-viral meme on the social media platform on the same day. He said in his post: “I concur.”

The photo shown is a screenshot of the Inquirer homepage with the edited headline.

The post had received over 3,600 reactions and 5,100 shares as of this article’s posting.

While the Inquirer believes the meme “maligns” its brand name, netizens couldn’t agree more with the headline.

Jaycee Esmeria tagged a friend and said: “I see no typo here.”
