New Mcdonald’s ad features story of homeless kid pictured studying on the street

We’re lovin’ this.

In a rather brilliant marketing move, fast-food giant McDonald’s yesterday released a video featuring Daniel Cabrera, an 11-year-old boy who in 2015 was photographed studying outside a McDonald’s branch in Mandaue City, Cebu.

Called “The Boy who Loves to Study,” the video re-tells the story of how the viral picture changed Daniel’s life.

“He dreams of becoming a policeman. He doesn’t mind going to school even when it’s far,” narrated his mom.

Daniel was using the light of McDonald’s to finish his homework when he was photographed by Joyce Torrefranca, who was a college MedTech student then.

“For me, I have no excuse not to study because I have everything. So I posted it and wrote the caption ‘Inspired by a kid,’” shared Joyce.

Daniel’s story spread across the web as the photo caught the attention of local and international media. Donations poured in for the boy who just wanted to finish his schooling.

Daniel received allowance from McDonald’s that’s enough to last him until high school.

The video also features the tearful reunion of Joyce and Daniel after not seeing each other for a long time.

“The world will be better if we help other people even if we don’t receive anything in return,” said Joyce.

According to the video, Daniel is now in Grade 3, and is in the Top 10 of his class.
