Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi and Congressman Ruffy Biazon announced today that they are offering a PHP200,000 (US$4,135) reward to anyone who can pinpoint the whereabouts of the person who killed one of the city’s traffic enforcers.
Victim Daniel Manalo was working at about 7:30pm yesterday when he was shot to death by the unidentified assailant in front of SM Muntinlupa. Manalo was talking to someone on his cellphone when a man behind him shot him in the head, leading to the enforcer’s immediate death.
A witness said the gunman fled from the crime scene on foot. An empty bullet from a .45 caliber pistol was found in the area. Before he was shot, Manalo was managing a “clearing operation,” a common practice in the Philippines where illegally built structures such as stores are removed from a certain area.

Manalo works as a supervisor at the Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau and is a resident of the village of Poblacion.
Biazon has condemned the killing, saying in a statement that the shooting “not only extinguished the life of Officer Manalo, [but] it has [also] broken the peace and order of the city, especially that a law enforcement officer is a victim.”
“This is not the first time that there has been a killing in our city. Others have fallen at the hands of assassins. Unfortunately, many have gone unsolved and this latest one with a law enforcer as [a] victim shows that perpetrators continue to brazenly defy the city’s law and order,” Biazon added.
