The first Monday after Chinese New Year got off to a rough start this morning for thousands of MRT-3 commuters due to a “power supply failure.”
Transportation officials provided buses for stranded commuters before they were able to get the trains running at 6:45 am.
“It was identified that the power supply failure was due to intertwined wires – the stringed new feeder wire made contact with the outrun messenger wire,” MRT officials said in a statement.
“They should change their policy, fix the trains, which are already old, an inconvenience in commuting to work,” commuter Joy Asuncion, told ABS-CBN News early this morning.
The line was built to serve only about 350,000 commuters a day but has been servicing about 500,000 daily for several years.
The MRT has been experiencing glitches and accidents daily over the past year, averaging a total of two glitches per day in 2017, according to CNN Philippines. The most memorable incidents include one where a woman’s arm was sliced off and another where train cars completely detached from each other.
