Drunk driving causes road accidents but it looks like people should steer clear of bodies of water after drinking too, especially after news of this man who drowned in the Pasig River after coming from a drinking session with his friends.

ABS-CBN News reported that the unnamed victim’s lifeless body was retrieved from the river by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) earlier today.

According to the 56-year-old’s friends, he was drunk last night and might have accidentally fallen into the river. Authorities said the incident happened at around 10pm and that the body was recovered around at around 12am today.

The PCG said they had a hard time retrieving the body because aside from it being dark, the water was also filthy.

The Pasig River was considered an important transport route before it was damaged by pollution. In 1990, it was declared biologically dead.

The report stated that it’s unclear if there was any foul play because the body is yet to undergo an autopsy.
