There’s nothing like celebrating Christmas in the Philippines, where the season starts as early as September. For many, it’s one of the most joyous times of the year marked by traditions such as the Simbang Gabi, Catholic dawn masses that start on Dec. 16 and end Dec. 24.
For Filipinos, the Simbang Gabi is the most important tradition because many believe that their wishes would be granted if they complete the entire series.
Over the years the tradition has evolved — instead of just holding masses in churches, the Simbang Gabi is now held in malls, too that also offer anticipated masses held the night before — no need to wake up at 4am!
Many of the malls in Manila have their own chapels, or spaces where masses are held. Below, are Simbang Gabi schedules for some of them.
