A security guard at a Makati City mall is earning praise on social media for returning a bag containing bundles of cash to its rightful owner and refusing to accept cash as a reward for his honesty.

Ronald Llaneta, a security guard at Jazz Mall in Makati City found a small bag left in a pushcart in the supermarket section of the mall late Thursday evening.

Llaneta and his supervisor eventually discovered that the bag contained PHP410,000 (about USD8210) and a pair of red eyeglasses.

“We salute you for being honest,” wrote a netizen on a post about Llaneta that has gone viral on FB. It was one of many praises that Llaneta has received for his good deed.

The 24-year-old security guard said he was just doing his job.

“To be honest, I didn’t expect that I will earn praise because of what I did. I am just happy because I made my family proud,” Llaneta said in a report by the Manila Bulletin.

Based on the photos going viral on social media, Llaneta enjoyed a buffet meal and bags of gift as his reward.
