Malabon City councilor Tiger Mañalac shot dead by motrocycle-riding gunmen

At 3:50pm on Sat, Jan 23, Malabon City 2nd District Councilor Merlin “Tiger” Mañalac — son of former councilor and police colonel Boyong Mañalac — was in front of his house along Perlas Street in Barangay Tinajeros when motorcycle-riding gunmen drove by and shot him dead.

“Self-proclaimed socialist group, Partisano (Armadong Operatiba ng Partido Marxista-Leninista ng Pilipinas), has claimed responsibility for killing Mañalac, who was aiming for another term as councilor in the upcoming elections,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

In a statement, Partisano leader Leni Katindig revealed that they blamed Mañalac for the death of Ka Peter Villasenor, a group member and former member of the New People’s Army (NPA). Katindig pointed out that Mañalac’s death is the group’s “punishment” for his crime.

Meanwhile, Malabon City Mayor Antolin “Len-Len” Oreta III has offered a PHP200,000 reward for anyone who can give information on Mañalac’s killers.
