How lucky is this dude?
A young man from Laguna named CJ Banasihan received PHP5,000 (US$99) worth of pineapple-made products from Dole Philippines after he mistakenly assumed that its Facebook page was being managed by the Department of Labor and Employment—which goes by the acronym DOLE.
Dole, the company, announced today on their Facebook page that they gifted Banasihan with their products. They wrote, “On March 24, Facebook user CJ Banasihan mistook us for DOLE or [the] Department of Labor and Employment. He asked us for 5,000 pesos COVID-19 financial assistance. We told him [that] we are a different Dole, the global fruit products company.”
“He may not have gotten the money yet from the Department of Labor and Employment, but he received more than 5,000 pesos worth of our products for brightening up everyone’s day with his viral post,” the company said.
Banasihan became internet-famous late last month when he posted screenshots of Facebook messages which he sent to Dole’s account. His viral Facebook post, which was shared almost 75,000 times, showed his angry message where he asked, “Hey, what’s happening?! Where’s our 5k?!”
The company responded by saying that they are not the Department of Labor and Employment, but offered Banasihan this advice, “However, if you’re feeling stressed out, why don’t you #DoleItUp and try a refreshing can of Dole 100% Pineapple juice? It’ll give you a natural energy boost that will make you bounce back from your troubles!”
Banasihan realized his mistake and wrote back, “Ay, I’m sorry. This is a different Dole!”
For those out of the loop, the government promised in mid-March that DOLE (that’s the labor department) will give a handout of PHP5,000 to each Filipino who has lost his job due to the Luzon lockdown, which is now scheduled to send on April 30. That’s the reason Banasihan was demanding the money from Dole— it’s just hilarious that he mistakenly thought it was the government labor department.
Banasihan posted a picture on Monday that showed him standing next to boxes of Dole products, confirming that indeed, he had already received his gifts.
Congrats, CJ, and enjoy!
