The ride-sharing app Uber has been plagued by a series of troubles in the past months. Unfortunately, looks like there’s more.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) warned Uber against rolling out its two new features UberMOTO and UberXL, which are allegedly not compliant with the requirements for transport network companies.

UberMOTO enables commuters to book a ride with motorcycles for short trips, while UberXL allows large groups to move around the city.

LTFRB board member Aileen Lizada raised safety, traffic, and fare issues that the agency finds problematic.

“Everybody has a good idea. But if you allow everybody with a good idea to implement it, we would be disorganized,” Lizada said in a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

UberMOTO, Lizada said, “will flood the roads with motorcycles,” which can be a problem since the government is already promoting high-capacity transport like buses and P2P (point-to-point) service. Uber’s competitor Grab was also disallowed to operate a similar motorcycle ride-sharing feature.

Meanwhile, Lizada said that UberXL will affect other high-capacity vehicles like tourist vans. The feature has not yet been discussed by Uber with LTFRB.

“They better stop this UberMoto and UberXL. There has to be a sense of regulation at their end. If they are not able to comply, they better bring their business elsewhere,” Lizada said, quoting LTFRB chair Martin Delgra III.

A meeting between Uber and LTFRB is set on May 23.
