A farmer was killed and three of his companions injured when lightning struck them Wednesday morning in Moises Padilla town in the province of Negros Occidental.

Zaldy Marfil, 40, died on the spot after he was struck in the village of Odiong, SunStar Bacolod reported. Marfil had gone to the rice field with his friends to harvest his crops but decided against it due to a sudden downpour. He was walking home when the lightning struck.

The bolt left a dark scar across Marfil’s chest, according to news program Unang Balita.

Meanwhile, his three companions, Rodfil Espartero, Rodfil’s younger brother Rodrigo Espartero, and Juanito Magsipoc sustained minor injuries and were rushed to a health care center, Rappler reported

Local authorities have warned residents they should stay indoors or avoid walking in the fields during inclement weather to avoid such accidents.
