If there’s a will, then there’s a way to graduate and to attend graduation.

A 20-year-old leukemia patient wore a cap and toga as she received her college diploma in a special graduation ceremony in the hospital where she was receiving treatment.

Maria Julpha Villa earned a degree in Bachelor of Science in Physical Education at Rizal Technological University (RTU) in Mandaluyong, but she was not expected to attend the graduation ceremony on May 25 because she had to be hospitalized after being diagnosed with stage 4 acute mylogenous leukemia in Feb.

“Dr. Jesus Rodrigo Torres, president of RTU, said school officials wanted Villa and her parents to be able to mark the completion of her studies, which she had wished for and worked towards for years,” ABS-CBN News reports.

Villa was in tears as school and hospital staff helped her wear her toga. The small gathering was attended by doctors, nurses and of course, Villa’s parents.

Apart from her diploma, Villa also received an excellence medal. She was a scholar for four years because of her skill in arnis.
