Inquirer does satire? Group named CACI SIRA hails Andanar as ‘Communicator of the Year’

A report in the Philippine Daily Inquirer got us disoriented.

The story bearing the byline of Boying Pimentel is supposedly about “a prestigious media organization” that calls itself the Committee for the Advancement of Creative Imagination and the Systematic Institutionalization of Rodrigo’s Aspirations (CACI SIRA).

The name of the organization alone already makes us suspicious. What makes things extra-awkward is that Andanar is a columnist for the Inquirer.

In any case, CACI SIRA is supposedly hailing Presidential Communications Office (PCO) chief Martin Andanar as “Communicator of the Year.”

The group’s statement explaining their choice has a satirical vibe.

CACI SIRA praised Andanar for his “unabashed embrace of the principles of creative imagination” in serving as President Rodrigo Duterte’s chief spokesman. They also blasted his critics for failing to recognize the “extraordinary genius” behind the secretary’s pronouncements.

CACI SIRA also highlighted Andanar’s Inquirer column entry last Nov 14, where he tagged as “temperamental brats” those opposing the burial of President Ferdinand Marcos’ remains at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

“The secretary used a five-syllable word, a clear sign of his sophisticated intelligence,” CACI SIRA pointed out.

We’re not Andanar fans but, as far as we know, Inquirer has no satire section. This story clearly falls under that category.
