Illegal recruiters prey on Yolanda evacuees in Metro Manila

Criminal minds have no mercy.

“Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Administrator Hans Cacdac confirmed that some illegal recruiters have attempted to hire displaced workers, who are now staying in evacuation centers in Metro Manila,” reports Samuel Medenilla in the Manila Bulletin.

The report quoted Cacdac, who explained, “Based on the reports that we received, some unidentified personnel attempted to post job openings in some of the evacuation centers, but were quickly turned away by local governments and non-government units.” He went on to point out that “the practice is illegal since recruitment agencies are only allowed to hire workers in their offices or during am authorized job fair.”

To further deter illegal recruiters, Cacdac has ordered POEA’s anti-illegal recruitment branch to deploy some of its operatives to patrol the Villamor High School in Pasay City and Jose Fabella Center in Mandaluyong City, which serve as evacuations centers for Yolanda victims.
