Good news for future mothers!

The House of Representatives approved a bill today which will grant female workers a 100-day paid maternity leave. They voted 191-0-0, on the bill’s third and final reading.

House Bill (HB) No. 4113 seeks to increase the current 60-day leave to 100 days for mothers working in the private and government sector, Manila Bulletin reported.

The bill will also give women workers the option to extend their maternity leave 30 days more but without pay.

In March 2017, the Senate approved its version of the bill, the Expanded Maternity Leave Law, which extends maternity leave to 120 days leave with pay, with an option to extend for an additional 30 days without pay. It also proposes a 150-day maternity leave for single moms.

Both the House and the Senate are expected to meet again to discuss their versions of the bill before presenting it to President Rodrigo Duterte for it to be signed into law, ABS-CBN News reported.
