What is “fafda?”
Many Filipinos asked themselves this very question after the Philippines’ Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) tweeted these letters, a term that does not mean anything in English or in any of the various languages and dialects in the Philippines.
The tweet has since been taken down but, of course, it got screengrabbed and is being shared widely. It is the fourth trending topic in the country as of this posting.
PCOO chief Martin Andanar told reporters that it was a mistake made by one of their Twitter admins. “It doesn’t mean anything, so she deleted it right away. I immediately wrote a memo to all of our social media admins to be more careful,” he said.
No word yet if “fafda” is related to “covfefe.” We’ll have to ask the White House about that.
And in typical Filipino fashion, netizens went to town on the “fafda” jokes.
