We get homesick too, dude, but this is not the way to get over it.
A man was arrested last night after he held a woman hostage at knifepoint in a canteen in Barangay (Village) 172 in Caloocan City.
The suspect was identified as Jimmy Onido, a construction worker from the Bicol Region, ABS-CBN News reported. The victim, on the other hand, was the canteen owner’s daughter.
According to Rey Abobo, the victim’s father, Onido went inside the canteen at around 7pm and suddenly grabbed a knife.
“He chased us, he wanted to kill us … When he got in, he got my daughter,” Abobo told ABS-CBN News.
Authorities were eventually able to get the suspect’s siblings to talk some sense into him, leading to his surrender to the police.
According to Chief Insp. Anthony Capurcos, station commander of Caloocan City’s Police Community Precinct (PCP) 6, Onido had only been in Caloocan for three days when the incident happened. Police believe that the suspect was depressed.
Onido defended himself by saying that he had no intention of hurting the victim. “I was just homesick,” he said on ABS-CBN’s television show Umagang Kay Ganda.
He will reportedly face charges for alarm and scandal and serious illegal detention.
