An unconventional ceremony for one graduating Filipino-American stuck on a New York City subway has warmed the hearts of thousands since going viral on the internet.
On Tuesday, 22-year-old Jerick Alcantara from Queens rode the subway to his nursing school graduation at Hunter College.
After realizing that unexpected train delays would cause him to miss his ceremony, Alcantara jokingly thanked strangers on the train for coming to his graduation.
Fellow passengers were quick to encourage the graduate and to make matters ‘official’, Alcantara’s friends gave him an impromptu ceremony complete with a makeshift diploma.
A video capturing the heartwarming moment has since gone viral, accumulating over 2 million views on Facebook.
