Grab Express driver arrested in Pasig for allegedly having PHP300,000 worth of cocaine

GrabExpress driver Edison Hernandez was arrested by Pasig City police yesterday for allegedly delivering PHP300,000 (approx. USD5,800) worth of cocaine.

He was caught after allegedly delivering packages that contained cocaine at Metrowalk, a commercial complex in Pasig City, early yesterday morning. According to Inquirer.net, Hernandez said that he was not aware of what was inside the packages since they were all wrapped in plastic. Hernandez was paid PHP8,000 (USD 160) for every transaction.

GrabExpress is a delivery service offered by the same company that operates GrabCar and GrabTaxi. Customers can hire a driver to send packages to a destination through the Grab phone app. Like other Grab services, the driver is paid based on how far the destination is from the pickup point. GrabExpress is only available within the Manila metro area, making it unlikely for the delivery fee to reach PHP8,000 (USD 160).

Meynard Ang, a cocaine supplier caught by the police Sunday, was the one who tipped the police about Hernandez’s drug operation. Ang himself was caught with PHP90,000 (USD 1,800) worth of cocaine. Both Hernandez and Ang are detained at the Pasig police station.

In an interview with the press, Pasig Police Chief Orlando Yebra Jr. said that the Hernandez and Ang revealed that some of their clients are children of politicians.
