Fulfilling ‘prophecy,’ man allegedly tries to stab Occidental Mindoro governor

A 53-year-old businessman was arrested yesterday after allegedly trying to stab Occidental Mindoro Governor Eduardo Gadiano inside the latter’s office in Payompon village in Mamburao.

Gadiano survived the attack by dodging the knife and throwing a chair at suspect Adrian Gatdula, who hid in the office toilet. The governor’s bodyguards then captured the businessman and turned him over to the police. Colonel Joseph Bayan, the provincial police director, told reporters that they were able to retrieve three knives that were four to five inches long from Gatdula’s possession.

The governor claimed that Gatdula was a supporter of his and that he had no quarrel with the businessman. After the suspect’s arrest, a puzzled Gadiano asked Gatdula why he tried to kill him, reported Bombo Radyo. The suspect allegedly said that he was trying to fulfill a “prophecy.”

Colonel Bayan said that the suspect is probably facing psychological problems and said that the Gatdula will undergo a medical exam.

Mamburao police could not be reached and the governor’s office has not responded to Coconuts Manila’s request for comments as of posting.

Gatdula is currently detained at the Mamburao police station and will be charged with attempted murder.
