Accidents can happen anytime, anywhere, and often when you least expect it.
An 83-year-old doctor’s Sunday morning was shaken up yesterday when the vehicle he was driving unexpectedly drove off a mall’s multi-level parking lot.
The doctor was identified as Teodoro Paraiso Llamanzares, the father-in-law of Senator Grace Poe, ABS-CBN News reported.
The incident happened at around 9:45am in the parking lot in front of Greenhills Shopping Center’s Promenade building in San Juan City.
San Juan police chief Senior Supt. Dindo Reyes told The Philippine Daily Inquirer that Llamanzares and his wife came from Sunday mass when the incident happened. However, his wife was not in the vehicle with him when the incident happened as she already went inside the mall.
Reyes said that Llamanzares, who was then driving a black Toyota Innova, tried going up to the parking lot’s third floor when the SUV started to slow down.
He accelerated the car but ended up hitting the barrier. This led to the car falling down to the ground upside down, ABS-CBN News reported.
He was brought to the nearby Cardinal Santos Medical Center for treatment, Inquirer reported.
According to Poe, Llamanzares sustained fractured ribs and bruises but is in stable condition.
“Thankfully my father-in-law, Dr. Teodoro Paraiso Llamanzares, is all right and no one else was hurt in the incident. It’s a good thing he was wearing his seatbelt so he only has a few fractured ribs and bruises, but we expect a speedy recovery,” Poe said in a statement.
Police said that no one else was hurt.
Authorities are still investigating what could have caused the incident.
