A former barangay (village) captain was shot dead in front of his children by unidentified assailants inside his home in Pandacan, Manila earlier today.

The victim was identified as Buanito Buan, 57. He was the former chairman of Village 849 in Pandacan, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.

He was sleeping with his four children on the second floor of their home when he was shot, ABS-CBN’s radio station DZMM stated.

DZRH News reported that witnesses saw four unidentified men wearing helmets entering the house. CCTV footage show another accomplice stationed outside the house as a lookout, the report added. The children were reportedly pleading for the men not to kill their father, but it fell on deaf ears.

One of Buan’s children, Renzy, told authorities that the assailants shot his father four times, Inquirer stated.

The Manila Police District is still investigating the motive behind the killing.
