Life outside of jail proved to be deadly for this former inmate.

A man was killed last night by unidentified suspects on Langit Rd. in the village of Bagong Silang in Caloocan. The crime occurred shortly after the victim was freed from prison.

Datucan Samad-Montoc had just been released from Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City after he was acquitted of murder, reported ABS-CBN News. His cousin picked him up from the camp using his motorcycle.

Samad-Montoc, who was accused of killing a relative in Pikit, Cotabato, planned to spend the night in Caloocan before going home to his hometown in Mindanao.

However, three to four men on board two motorcycles tailed Samad-Montoc and his cousin. It’s unclear if all of them shot the victim, who died at the scene of the crime.

The victim’s cousin survived the attack.

His cousin told television GMA show Balitanghali in Filipino: “I was so surprised when I heard the shots. I thought one of the motorcycle’s tires burst. I was surprised when he (Samad-Montoc) just slumped behind my back.”

The victim was shot in his head.

No witnesses were able to see the license plates of the vehicles used by the gunmen. Authorities are also at a loss as to the assailants’ motives.
