Former drug addict killed by 7 gunmen in Manila

“Duterte, listen to what I’m saying. Why is it that when the Chinese bring drugs here, you treat them like VIPs. Why is it that when it comes to the poor… they’re killed right away, there’s no evidence yet,” Nanette, the mother of a shooting victim told reporters yesterday.

A report by ABS-CBN, which seemingly took place in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, said that her son, 32-year-old welder Aldrin Castillo, was shot multiple times by seven gunmen riding motorcycles in Tondo, Manila.

He died on the spot.

“People said they surrounded him. He was already lying down, they still shot him, as if he were a pig,” Castillo’s aunt Vicky Lacsamana told ABS-CBN.

According to witnesses, Castillo was on his way home after a night of drinking and was in the area to visit family.

The victim’s family believe the incident was drug-related; they admitted that Castillo used to use drugs but said that he already stopped. They are open to having Castillo’s body tested for drugs.

The case is still being investigated and the gunmen’s motives are still unknown. According to barangay (village) officials, the CCTV cameras in the area stopped working hours before the shooting happened. The Scene of the Crime Operatives found five .45 caliber shells at the crime scene.

According to a recent survey by Social Weather Stations, 60 percent of Filipinos believe the drug war only kills poor people.

The Commission on Human Rights reported that at least 13,000 people have been killed by the drug war.
