Five Taiwanese drug suspects were sentenced to life imprisonment today after a local court found them guilty beyond reasonable doubt of illegal possession and manufacturing of drugs.

In a 27-page decision penned by Judge Danilo Suarez of Branch 259 of the Parañaque Regional Trial Court, it named the Taiwanese drug suspects as Yu Teng Cheng, Horng Jen Tsai, Kun Lin Yu, Yung-Chun Huang and Yun-Pong Hsu. They were arrested on August 19, 2012 by elements of the Philippine National Police, Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force and the Parañaque Police.

During the raid, a kitchen type shabu laboratory was discovered inside the three-storey house of the suspects located at Number 5, Santisima Trinidad Street in San Antonio Valley 12 in Parañaque.

Recovered from the suspects were PHP150 million (US$3 million)  worth of equipment and processed shabu.

After the promulgation, the 5 convicted drug suspects were brought back to Camp Bagong Diwa where they have been detained at the Special Intensive Care Area or SICA.

Judge Suarez has already ordered the branch Clerk of Court to prepare the commitment order for the immediate transfer of the drug convicts to the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa.

The court has also directed the forfeiture, in favor of the government, of the confiscated 3,913 grams of ephedrine; 4,298 grams of pseudo ephedrine; and 6,549 grams of metamphetamine hydrochloride and other chemicals used for the manufacture of shabu.

The confiscated chemicals and processed shabu will have to be turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for proper disposal.

Six other drug suspects who are Filipinos were also sentenced to life imprisonment. However, three of them are out on bail.

Members of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) were also present during the promulgation.

They are happy with the conviction of drug suspects. They added that this may serve as a strong warning for those who are still in the business of illegal drug trade.
