A Filipina was stabbed to death allegedly by her own husband in their San Diego, California home late last week.

The couple has been identified as 30-year-old Rhona Barcelon and her husband 31-year-old Jay Barcelon. The authorities reportedly heard the two arguing when they arrived at their home at 2200 Dain Court, Lemon Grove at around 7:30pm. When deputies barged inside the couple’s house, they saw the two with multiple stab wounds.

“Deputies forced entry into the residence and their immediate intervention stopped any further assault. Deputies provided medical aid to Rhona and Jay until relieved by fire personnel,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

“Based on the investigation, homicide detectives concluded Jay stabbed Rhona while inside the residence,” it added.

The couple was brought to a hospital for treatment but Rhona was dead on arrival. Jay, however, had surgery and survived his injuries.

Jay had been arrested on Saturday in connection with the alleged murder.

The United States has the highest number of Filipino immigrants in the entire world. From 2014 to 2018, about 43% of them lived in California, while the rest are in Hawaii, Texas, and New York. When ranked by counties, the top four places with the most number of Filipinos are Los Angeles and San Diego in California, and Honolulu County in Hawaii, and Clark County in Nevada.
