Duterte cites Hitler: I’d be happy to slaughter 3 million

President Rodrigo Duterte on Fri (Sep 30) said he’d be happy to slaughter 3 million drug addicts, and even compared his act to that of Adolf Hitler.

“Hitler massacred 3 million Jews. There are 3 million drug addicts. I’d be happy to slaughter them,” Duterte said in a press conference following his arrival from an official visit to Vietnam.

Duterte revealed he does not mind killing drug addicts if the act will rid the country of its crime-related problems.

“At least, if Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have you know,” he said, pausing and pointing to himself.

“You know my victims. I would like (them) to be all criminals to finish the problem of my country and save the next generation from perdition,” said Duterte.

Duterte’s bloody war on drugs has been the subject of criticisms here and abroad.

Among Duterte’s most recent critics were U.S. Senators Patrick Leahy and Benjamin Cardin, who expressed concern over Duterte’s handling of the war on drugs.

“If President Duterte is serious about improving conditions in the Philippines, he should be focusing on improving services for Filipinos, not casting them aside; holding law enforcement accountable, not giving them a blanket license to kill suspects; and strengthening the judiciary, not undercutting it,” Leahy said.

Meanwhile, Cardin hit Duterte for the administration’s apparent lack of respect for international human rights commitments.

“These recent reports of thousands of extra-judicial killings as well as detentions and a lack of respect for international human rights commitments are profoundly troubling. They undermine our mutual goals of upholding liberal democratic values in the region and to strengthening international law,” Cardin said.

Reacting to these recent statements, Duterte told the U.S. senators not to interfere with Philippine affairs and to stop being hypocrites.

“Do not interfere in our affairs. I will ask him now. Why are you shooting the black people there when they are on the ground?”

“Stop this hypocrisy game and we are alright. Stop being hypocrites. Do not pretend to be the moral conscience of the world. Do not be the policeman because you do not have the eligibility to do that in my country,” Duterte added. ABS-CBN News
