Covid-19 cases peaked up to four times higher this year as compared to 2020, says Duque

Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III reported last night at the president’s weekly Talk to the People pandemic update that the nationwide Covid-19 cases seem to be indicating a downward trend, after hitting a peak over the past few months.

The secretary, however, also noted that the peak numbers were very high as compared to the same peak last year: in the NCR and Visayas, this year’s number of Covid-19 infections is double what it was in 2020; while in the rest of Luzon and in Mindanao, cases are four times as high as they were last year.

In the meantime, the health secretary also noted that the different areas in the country seem to be over the peak for 2021, and hoped that the downward trends would continue.
