The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) apologized to the hundreds of thousands of passengers for train delays caused by a “thorugh inspection” of some of the trains.

A strange sound from one of the trains signaled the need to inspect the entire fleet. Only 15 trains are currently operational and their speed is reduced from 40kph to 20kph.

Transportation Undersecretary for Rail Cesar Chavez explained that one of the trains “wiggled” and made a strange sound on Tuesday, 7pm.

“An inspection showed that an axle of the bogey system under the train driver’s coach broke,” reports ABS-CBN News.

Passengers can expect fewer and slower trains until Sunday.
